Three-quarters of the earth’s surface is covered with water. The rest is covered with book publicists. Only we have access to the closely-guarded secrets to creating a bestseller, to landing a New York Times review, to Meredith Vieira’s cell phone number…c’mon, get REAL!
Back in the dark ages, when I booked 12-15 national publicity tours per year for a West Coast publisher, the total number of books published annually, according to Publishers Weekly, was 48,000. Pretty daunting to compete with all those other new books. Today, with the advent of e-books, print-on-demand as well as books published by traditional means, the number exceeds a staggering one million new books per year.
So, what’s the answer? How do you reach the audience for any book among this incredible deluge? The trick is to know the target, take aim and shoot for the moon...and do it all for a modest amount of money, in comparison to the generous publicity budgets of yore.
That’s what we strive to do at The Sayles Organization. Get to your audience and give you the most bang for your buck. Every campaign is tailored to your specific needs and budget...all with the goal of spreading the word far and wide.
And since you can barely swing a chicken over your head without smacking a publicist in the kisser, knowing who to choose can be a little confusing. HINT: Find someone you like, someone with whom you’re comfortable, and please, pick someone who can write!
I’m happy to take a look at your book and chat with you to determine if we’re the right fit for each other. Good luck with your book...and if I can be of some help, just holler!
